These genuine Ford USB Media Hubs are all Apple CarPlay complaint for use with SYNC 3. Great for upgrading 2016 SYNC 3 equipped vehicles to support CarPlay. Also used for upgrading SYNC 2 (MyFord / MyLincoln Touch) to SYNC 3. When retrofitting SYNC 3, most vehicles will require a mounting and electrical adapter. Makes Apple CarPlay work!
Update your Sync3 software to version 2.2 first. There's instructions online on how to do it. Make sure that is done first and working right. Plan on rebooting (complete shutdown and start up of the vehicle) at least once or twice before version 2.2 gets itself sorted out. Then swap out the old USB port for this one. The next time you plug it your iPhone, you'll have Apple CarPlay. Impressions: if you have Sync3 and navigation from Ford, I'm not convinced that Apple CarPlay offers any great advantages. In fact, I'm leaning towards not using CarPlay. The Sync3 and iPhone integration is pretty decent without CarPlay. To each, their own opinion. Bottom Line, this part does exactly what it is supposed to do, installation is easy.
